Structure, Governance and Management

The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee. It was registered as a charity in 1974 and incorporated in 1992. The company was established under a memorandum of association, which established the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association. In the event of the company being wound up members are required to contribute an amount not exceeding £1.

Risk Management

The Board of Directors have conducted a review of the major risks to which the charity is exposed. The review was delegated to the Manager and drew on the work already completed under the contingency policy. The latter is one of the Scottish Women's Aid nationally developed policies that the Charity has adopted and which have been accepted by the Care Commission. Appendices to the contingency policy list the risks, interventions and personnel responsible and will be reviewed annually. Where appropriate, systems or procedures have been established to mitigate risks the charity faces.

Related Parties

In so far as it is complimentary to the charity's objects, the charity is guided by both local and national policy. At a national level domestic abuse service provision is steered by the Scottish Executive's "National Strategy to address Domestic Abuse". All the work carried out by Dundee Women's Aid (DWA) comes under the umbrella of the National Strategy to Address Domestic Abuse. DWA does this by being involved in multi-agency working locally and nationally, for example, DWA has representatives on the Dundee Domestic Abuse Steering Group, Dundee Domestic Abuse Children and Young People's Forum and Dundee Domestic Abuse Adult Services Group. This means that DWA contributes to local planning and delivery of service relating to domestic abuse. Other representatives on these forums are NHS, Education, Social Work and the voluntary sector. DWA will continue to offer a service in accordance with the Care Commission standards, Supporting People criteria and the Scottish Social Service Council registration. Representatives from DWA regularly attend national meetings organised by Scottish Women's Aid.

Organisational Structure

Governance of DWA is entrusted to the 4 members of the Board of Directors. The Board meets bi-monthly and is kept informed of service users and employee activity, makes decisions regarding finance, personnel and other matters, and ratifies policies and procedures.
DWA currently has 26 members who support the aims and objectives of DWA. They have the right to attend and vote on resolutions submitted to General Meetings, elect Directors as well as receive relevant information of the work of the organisation.
